1Overview

The Model 845-OEM is a compact, board-level RF signal generator built for integration into custom test systems, automated equipment, and embedded designs. A shielded enclosure keeps the output clean in dense or electrically noisy environments, so the module holds its phase-noise and spurious performance once it is built into a larger system.

It carries the synthesis core of the Model 845 in an OEM form factor: wide frequency coverage, 0.001 Hz resolution, fast switching, and full modulation, all controllable through the BNC GUI or over standard remote interfaces.

Frequency range, verify. The current product page title states 100 kHz to 20 GHz, while the key-features and specification sections state 100 kHz to 26.5 GHz. Both figures are reproduced here as published. Confirm which range is authoritative for the configured unit against Model 845-OEM datasheet v2.59 before release.

2Key Features

  • High output power. +27 dBm with option HP.
  • Wide frequency range. 100 kHz to 26.5 GHz (page title states 20 GHz; verify).
  • Excellent phase noise performance.
  • Fine resolution. 0.001 Hz frequency, 0.01 dB power.
  • Phase lock capability for synchronized systems.
  • Fast frequency switching.
  • BNC GUI integration with control via USB, Ethernet, and optional GPIB.
  • Shielded enclosure for clean performance in noisy environments.

3Frequency & Output Power

The Model 845-OEM tunes with 0.001 Hz resolution. The specification sections state a range of 100 kHz to 26.5 GHz, while the page title states 100 kHz to 20 GHz; see the verification note in Section 1.

Standard leveled output power runs from -20 to +15 dBm with 0.01 dB resolution. With the HP high-output option, output reaches +27 dBm; contact the factory for levels above +25 dBm.

ParameterValue
Frequency range100 kHz to 26.5 GHz (page title states 20 GHz; verify)
Frequency resolution0.001 Hz
Output power range-20 to +15 dBm (+27 dBm with option HP)
Power resolution0.01 dB

4Phase Noise & Spectral Purity

SSB phase noise measured at 1 GHz CW:

Offset from carrierSSB phase noise (1 GHz CW)
10 Hz-80 dBc/Hz
1 kHz-117 dBc/Hz
100 kHz-128 dBc/Hz
10 MHz-150 dBc/Hz
Verification notes. Harmonic and spurious specifications are not listed on the current product page and are marked (verify) in Section 7. The LN low-noise option further improves close-in phase noise.

5Modulation

The Model 845-OEM supports AM, FM, PM, pulse, and chirp modulation. External modulation inputs are brought out on MCX connectors. For CW-only builds, the NM option removes modulation.

  • AM amplitude modulation (external input on MCX).
  • FM frequency modulation (external input on MCX).
  • PM phase modulation (external input on MCX).
  • Pulse pulse modulation (external input on MCX).
  • Chirp swept-frequency stimulus.

6Frequency Switching & Sweep

Standard switching speed is 400 microseconds. With the FS fast-switching option, switching drops to under 30 microseconds. List, frequency, and power sweeps support automated measurement.

Switching speed (option FS)<30 µs

8Interfaces & Form Factor

The Model 845-OEM ships as a shielded board-level package. The RF board measures 9.65 x 1.4 x 9.06 inches; the controller board measures 3.94 x 0.5 x 8.1 inches, growing to 8.5 inches long with the FS option. The RF output is SMA; reference clock, external modulation inputs, trigger input, and the function output are brought out on MCX connectors. A 2-pin Molex header drives an RF On/Off LED.

Remote control follows SCPI v1999 over Ethernet and USB, with GPIB available as an option. The BNC GUI provides a software control surface for bring-up and test.
